Pinterest Recipe Roundup: Part I

I have a love/hate relationship with cooking. There are days when I love being in the kitchen whipping up my favorite recipe and then there are days when I’m too tired and lazy to even look at the stove. However, these days I’ve been wanting to cook something new or bake something fun. Cooking is so much fun when you’re actually making something you love. Like last week, I made these Steak Quesadillas and they were so good. I originally got the recipe from Blue Apron and added steak to spice it up a bit. It’s one of those fun, short and easy recipes that won’t take up too much of your time in the kitchen and the clean up is super easy after. I just love when a recipe is super easy and short lol. I just don’t have the patience for long recipes lol. Hahaha I know i have issues! Today, I am starting this new series, where I’ll be sharing with you some of my favorite Pinterest recipes that I have either tried or want to try.Top Pinterest Recipes

The Anthem, Police Brutality or Both?

Colin Kaepernick

An Opinion Piece By Elisha Brown

It’s no secret that Colin Kaepernick is making history by protesting police brutality during the national anthem. Let’s be clear before we go on further, Kaepernick is not protesting the anthem, he is using the anthem as a vehicle to bring attention to his cause, which is police brutality.

Earlier this week, I was frustrated that Rico LaVelle chose to sing the national anthem while kneeling. The debate I encountered on twitter was whether they could take the money to sing the anthem and protest at the same time. However, I strongly feel that singing the national anthem sends a stronger message, than any opposing message you could make while singing it. In my opinion, the best message to send is by not singing it at all.

Let’s briefly review the history of the national anthem. The national anthem did not become the national anthem until more than a century after it was written and was originally named “Defence of Fort M’Henry.” The first stanza is the stanza we sing as the anthem. However, there are four stanzas. The song is about the war against the British in 1812 and the war was over territory. Since England eradicated slavery before America did, American slaves fought on the side of the British in order to obtain their freedom. In the third stanza, the line reads, “No refuge could save the hireling and slave. From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave.” When I hear “bombs bursting in air” I don’t feel patriotic, those lines represent death and despair. We just have to throw the whole anthem away. Being A Nanny Has Taught Me Part II

Ever since I was a child I’ve always loved taking care of the younger ones in my family. I was always so  drawn to my  family members or family friends who just had a baby. I just loved the being able to help them and play with the baby. Throughout the years I’ve worked as a nursery teacher, babysitter for several friends and family member and a nanny. My first job as a nanny was a dream. I was a nanny for two preteens and this job was perfect. I absolutely loved being to give a part of myself to selflessly help this family. View Post

Ankle Boots I Wish I Could Wear This Fall

Fall Ankle BootsNow that I live in Florida all my ankle boots are nicely packed in their boxes in a storage container. I know I know I’m sad too. The weather in Florida just doesn’t get cold enough to wear my ankle boots. Last winter it got to about 40 degrees but honestly when I stepped outside in my ankle boots to go to my nephew’s girlfriend birthday party, I had to run inside to change because my feet were so hot. I’m one of those girls who can’t wear my ankle boots unless it’s really cold and Florida’s 40 degree weather isn’t Connecticut’s 40 degree weather. I miss wearing ankle boots y’all but I don’t miss the cold weather lol. Every time I visit my favorite online stores to see what’s in style I always have to stop myself and remember that I don’t live in Connecticut anymore and buying these boots are an absolute waste of money. One of my favorite stores to buy boots at is surprisingly Forever21. I have to say that they are not only affordable but they are really good quality. I got these boots (pictured here) two years ago and they are still in perfect condition and I wore them almost everyday and did all my errands in them when I lived in as a nanny in New York.
