Holiday Gift Guide: For The One Who Loves To Cook

Let us talk about how fast this year has gone by. Today, while looking at my calendar I realized that there are less than 50 days until Christmas. Can you believe it? Where has the year gone? Last week Friday, I celebrated my 26th birthday and now my family and I are gearing up for the holiday season. I’ve already planned out my holiday budget and figured out who I’ll be giving gifts to this holiday season. God knows that I am a last minute shopper but hopefully this year i can start shopping for everyone’s gifts by Thanksgiving week when all the sales start rolling in. Throughout the holiday season, I wanted to share with you all my themed holiday gift guides. Today, I’ll be sharing my holiday gift guide for the one that loves cooking. I have a lot of people in my life, including myself who love to bake, cook or who love getting brand new cookware and kitchen appliances.

This KitchenAid Stand Mixer is on everyone’s in my family Christmas wishlists. When I use to work as a nanny in New York, the family I worked for had a KitchenAid stand mixer and omg I use to rush at the opportunity to bake so I could use it. This is the ultimate Christmas present and if it’s in your budget this holiday season, you should definitely gift yourself this stand mixer or give it to a friend or relative who you know loves to bake. I also found these cute Mini Prep Mixing Bowls from Williams-Sonoma that are a must have. As you might have noticed my gift guide has a lot of cookware and appliances that are copper and rose gold. I just love that theme for the kitchen lol. Like this gorgeous Teapot and Infuser Set  or these Copper Finish Measuring Spoons. If you you’re gifting a bottle of wine this season you can pair it with this cute True Fabrications Viski Summit CorkscrewView Post

Pinterest Recipe Roundup: Part I

I have a love/hate relationship with cooking. There are days when I love being in the kitchen whipping up my favorite recipe and then there are days when I’m too tired and lazy to even look at the stove. However, these days I’ve been wanting to cook something new or bake something fun. Cooking is so much fun when you’re actually making something you love. Like last week, I made these Steak Quesadillas and they were so good. I originally got the recipe from Blue Apron and added steak to spice it up a bit. It’s one of those fun, short and easy recipes that won’t take up too much of your time in the kitchen and the clean up is super easy after. I just love when a recipe is super easy and short lol. I just don’t have the patience for long recipes lol. Hahaha I know i have issues! Today, I am starting this new series, where I’ll be sharing with you some of my favorite Pinterest recipes that I have either tried or want to try.Top Pinterest Recipes

The Anthem, Police Brutality or Both?

Colin Kaepernick

An Opinion Piece By Elisha Brown

It’s no secret that Colin Kaepernick is making history by protesting police brutality during the national anthem. Let’s be clear before we go on further, Kaepernick is not protesting the anthem, he is using the anthem as a vehicle to bring attention to his cause, which is police brutality.

Earlier this week, I was frustrated that Rico LaVelle chose to sing the national anthem while kneeling. The debate I encountered on twitter was whether they could take the money to sing the anthem and protest at the same time. However, I strongly feel that singing the national anthem sends a stronger message, than any opposing message you could make while singing it. In my opinion, the best message to send is by not singing it at all.

Let’s briefly review the history of the national anthem. The national anthem did not become the national anthem until more than a century after it was written and was originally named “Defence of Fort M’Henry.” The first stanza is the stanza we sing as the anthem. However, there are four stanzas. The song is about the war against the British in 1812 and the war was over territory. Since England eradicated slavery before America did, American slaves fought on the side of the British in order to obtain their freedom. In the third stanza, the line reads, “No refuge could save the hireling and slave. From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave.” When I hear “bombs bursting in air” I don’t feel patriotic, those lines represent death and despair. We just have to throw the whole anthem away.
